Volunteer Opportunities

Direct Program Support

Key Details of All Volunteer Positions – MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN SOMEONE’S LIFE!

  • Non-Expert—while we would welcome a professional or amateur in the fields we work in, simply having someone willing to get involved and open to learning is the primary requirement. We will give you the training you need to succeed.
  • No special equipment—we provide whatever equipment and/or supplies needed.
  • Make your own schedule—our programs run afternoons and on weekends at multiple sites…you choose when and where you will be and offer only as much time as you are willing to.
  • Work with youth—our programs are geared for the whole spectrum of age groups, from elementary school ages right through high school ages, and our youth are from the whole spectrum of races, economic backgrounds, abilities, etc.
  • Get outdoors—most of our programs get kids outside and directly interacting with the natural world, though we sometimes are indoors due to the weather and special programming that sometimes involves technology or a classroom setup.

We are looking for a volunteer(s) to act as photographer during our various programs with youth. Because our programs frequently involve a great deal of “hands-on” instruction by program leaders, it is typically impossible to take the time (or even to remember!) to take pictures. Yet pictures of our programs & participants are vital for us to spread the word about what we do.

We need a volunteer or volunteers to assist us in the whole range of logistics for our programs. This could entail something as simple as making sure the program space has a whiteboard & markers, all the way through organizing the gear needed for an overnight climbing trip for 10 people!

This person(s) would work closely with program leaders and volunteer assistants to assure that whatever program is running will have all that is necessary to accomplish the program goals. The logistics volunteer(s) may choose to be a part of the program or not.

Though we are seeking volunteer(s), and not paid staff at this point, this does not diminish the importance of this work. Our programs work with tight budgets, and even tighter timeframes; as such, it is key to have someone organizing the needed supplies, equipment or gear so that the maximum time is spent working with the kids.

Our programs vary not only in content, but also in size—for some there may be fewer than 10 kids, while others may involve 50! As such, we always need volunteers to work with us as chaperones/assistants. Depending on the particular program, these volunteers may only need to help keep things organized, while for others they may assist smaller groups of kids in doing a project or achieve an objective.

Our programs are in need of caring adults that want to help facilitate a positive experience for youth. We work with youth from elementary age to high school age in after school programs around Fitchburg and Leominster.

The variety of programs we offer means that our instructor/mentors do not necessarily need any particular expertise or specific skill…but if they do, all the better! Are you a birdwatcher? Do you love trees? Are you a gardener? Do you love to go hiking or camping or climbing? Do you know how to weave a basket, or identify insects? All these and more can be of great benefit to our kids………but even without these skills or hobbies, our kids most especially need someone to take an interest in them, to encourage them, to teach them to follow their dreams…TO REALIZE THEIR POTENTIAL!

Capacity Building Committee Leadership

Need/Goal: Youth need to experience the benefits of the outdoors and gain exposure to self-paced educational programming that is interactive in nature, sparks their curiosity, and helps them envision what is possible for their own future. A committee lead is needed to move the process forward so that content can be integrated with the public school curriculum with the goal of youth being able to get credit for curriculum mastery. This would be a public / private partnership.

  • Enablers
    • Principals, Elementary, Middle and High School
    • Teachers & Educators

Need/Goal: Destination fees, transportation, and food, are the costs that dominate our trips. Beyond traditional marketed destinations there is an untapped market comprised of successful adults and families that have vacation or 2nd homes and while not ready or able to commit to ongoing support, would relish the opportunity to open their property for a small group of youth to enjoy a weekend getaway to a unique destination. A committee lead is needed to create a marketing and outreach program around this concept.

  • Enablers
    • Owners of vacation homes, 2nd homes, or rustic getaways/properties

Need/Goal: In addition to grant writing and solicitation of donations, JUMP needs an annual fundraiser to raise community awareness of our work, build camaraderie among our staff and those we serve while raising money to further our mission.

The Executive Director has a concept and is looking for a committee lead with Marketing and Project Management skills to work with our youth channel partner(s) to develop this concept into an event in 2023 with the goal of revenue generation by 2024.
